So where are you fucking off to exactly?

I've had a few people ask this question - thought I'd chuck it on here so you can stalk me from a distance. Does that even make sense?


In any case - here it is. These are broad plans - I'll be backpacking so I don't have any solid plans beyond Buenos Aires.



  • 4th of August (maybe earlier) Leave Sydney, drive to Brisbane.
  • 12th August fly from Brisbane to Phuket (with friend)
  • 21st August fly to Koh Pha Ngan, Thailand for 2 weeks
  • 4-6th September Bangkok
  • Cambodia
  • 16-27th September Vietnam tour (with Mum)
  • 28th Sept - 1st Oct Hong Kong (with uncle)
  • 2nd Oct - 12th Oct Tokyo (with uncle)
  • 13-17th Oct NYC (with brother and his gf)
  • 18th Oct Buenos Aires - learn Spanish for a few weeks
  • Move down Argentina, go through Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego...
  • Chile
  • Peru
  • Mexico - meet a friend for Christmas
  • Honduras and Guatemala to do volunteer work
  • Cuba
  • Back to Mexico
  • US - drive from Arizona-Las Vegas-San Francisco-Monterey-Vancouver-Salt Lake City (friends)-Winnipeg (friends)-Chicago (friends)-Montreal-NYC (friends)-Washington-NYC
  • London/UK, meet friends around the place
  • Spain - try and pick up some volunteering/WWOOFing work
  • Start in Lisbon - work way around Mediterranean to Turkey, meeting friends in Italy and maybe Mum in Turkey
  • Morocco with a friend
  • India
  • Head home

Given that I'll be backpacking and I might end up picking up work here and there, who knows what will end up happening! But this is the plan at this stage. Any tips, tricks and traps greatly appreciated! Please comment! Thanks :)

    Keep notes. Backpackering munterdom makes fucking awesome story fodder. Therbs had a great series on his blog recanting his 'ratsacker' days from the 80s.

From the moment I left for The Sanctuary, I can only describe my mood as apprehensive. Apprehensive that I wouldn't know how to get there from Koh Samui airport (Which ferry? Which pier??), I didn't know what to expect when I got there, whether or not I would like it, or whether or not I would be able to go through with it. 10 reasons why Question Time is like Big Brother

As part of my new year's resolutions and after being inspired by the likes of Greg Jericho/Grog's Gamut, I said I'd write a blog on something I'd researched on a bi-monthly basis. Instead, I came up with this; the blog equivalent of a forwarded email.   Fuck it, I'll do better next time. In any case, I've been reflecting on our House of Representatives' behaviour during Question Time, and it occurred to me today that there are several striking parallels to Big Brother.  Before I get settled in to my argument, I have a confession to make. Very few things in life truly make me want to vomit, however yesterday morning’s breakfast interview with Christopher Pyne very nearly inspired such a violent physical reaction. According to the latest polls, Gillard is preferred PM over Tony Abbott by a long shot. But it’s not her party’s recent policy announcements that have gotten her over the line, nor is it Abbott’s spectacular floundering during Leigh Sales’s spectacular and devastating interview on the ABC 7.30 Program or even on the Today show … no. It’s been Labor’s cheap shots on Abbott’s character that have reduced the public’s faith in him. Diddy-fucking-widdums. So, because the party can’t trust him to be on the ABC ever again, Abbott didn’t go on TV to defend himself, the woefully obnoxious Christopher Pyne did.  And how Michael Rowland of Breakfast News managed to keep a straight face throughout the interview is absolutely beyond me.
